Residence Inn by Marriott Durango Downtown

John is the real rock of this property. He was juggling the front desk and breakfast area, bringing us towels and supplies, and even cleaning our room himself after we’d gone several days without maid service. He wouldn’t take a tip, just said he was happy to help. He also made us a thoughtful gift and handwritten note at no charge, which meant more than he knows. From booking over the phone through our arrival, he made this second stay wonderful. We were in town for surgery and so glad he was still there. There were a few issues, especially with housekeeping. The breakfast area has improved since our last visit, though better staffing could help keep it more sanitary. We’d absolutely recommend calling ahead and working with John. He made all the difference.

We all felt comfortable in the roomy, nicely updated suite. The extra space and kitchenette were a big help while traveling with our one-year-old.

We’re flight crew and always call ahead to confirm early check-in so we don’t run into duty-time issues. We did that here too. When we arrived at 1:15 pm, several people were in the lobby and it looked like housekeeping had fallen behind. We called the Marriott property next door, which had rooms available, and canceled our two rooms after being told there’d be no penalty. The following month, we found charges for two rooms for two nights, not just one night. Marriott corporate built our case and told us the local property had taken care of it. But by the end of 2025, four charges of $318 were still on our card. When we called the property, they denied it and insisted there were only two charges, though we could see four. It’s disappointing that they couldn’t help an already stressed part of the transport sector. Be ready for these kinds of challenges if you stay here.

The location is good, right in central Durango. Residence Inn’s extra room is something we love, especially when one of us wakes up early. Breakfast was good, and the facilities looked fresh, new, and updated. Brandy was a great server, keeping the breakfast items clean and fresh.
