Crestmont Inn

The owners were friendly and easy to talk to whenever I needed something. They keep extra towels and other useful things in the shared area, so they take a pretty hands-off approach. There were breakfast snacks in the pantry when we got up, too. The grounds and scenery were nice, and although the Crestmont sits on a hill, the lake trail is still walkable if you're used to hiking. We had more space than in a hotel, and it was budget friendly.

We only had two days, so we didn't get to walk all of Laurel Path around the lake, though the section we saw was beautiful. The setting at the Crestmont Inn is lovely, and I'd like to come back in the busy season to see the lake and area in their full summer beauty. We ate dinner one night and breakfast the next morning, and both were delicious. Service could have been better during the off-season, though. The inn was short staffed, and when our hot water ran out one evening, nobody was at the front desk, so we had to wait until the next day to report it. Still, it was a good stay and I'd return.

There's a nice lake nearby, frozen in winter and great in summer, and the town center is only a short drive away. The rooms are kept up nicely while retaining furniture from another era, which fits the inn's very rustic feel. Guests can use a common room with ping pong and pool. The dining room is outside the guest rooms, just a short walk away.

The food was good, and breakfast was a nice extra. But our anniversary night in the "Wedding Ring" room was marred by all the flies. We killed eleven during that one-night stay. They apologized and said it was the season, but it really put a damper on our weekend away. For what we paid, we expected the room and its accommodations to be more updated.
