Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Airport North

My daughter gives the hotel five stars. She was thrilled to have a queen bed of her own and loved being able to swim in the morning. We did notice a very strong smell in the room. It wasn’t too bad, but probably shouldn’t have been there. Breakfast was convenient, though the $20 charge caught me off guard since most hotels I’ve stayed at include it. This wasn’t the nicest Hilton I’ve been to, but I’m grateful we had it instead of spending the night at the airport.

We left early after a miserable stay at HGI ATL Airport North. The room had a loud, steady leak inside the wall, and the dripping made it impossible to relax. We reported it right away, but were told maintenance knew about it and nothing could be done that night. We tried the on-site restaurant for dinner, only to have a woman there tell us to eat somewhere else, such as Spondivits or Malone’s, because the cook refrigerators weren’t working and there were food safety concerns. Between that and the unresolved leak, the hotel failed at basic maintenance and hospitality. The room was dated too. I can’t recommend staying here.

Jay at the front desk turned a blah day into a marvelous one. He made me feel right at home with that warm Southern hospitality, and had me smiling in no time. Hilton, keep this guy at the desk! I’m here so often with my daughters or for work that I practically live at this Hilton. Check-in is always smooth, and I somehow keep getting the room I want. I don’t usually write reviews, but Jay deserves the credit. I’m already thinking about my next stay, and maybe next time I’ll see him in a different role. Keep shining, Jay. Xoxo, Amb.

Breakfast was a mess. It came wrapped in saran wrap on a temporary wheeled table, the coffee was gone, and there was no ordinary toaster. The conveyor toaster needed four runs, had no tongs, and sent my English muffin sliding out, with half of it nearly ending up on the floor. The eggs were watery and the breakfast potatoes soggy. It feels like the setup is meant to push people toward the expensive lobby restaurant. The location is handy, and the room was pretty standard. The AC worked okay, but the lighting was badly thought out: dim yellow in the bathroom, where I wanted brighter light, and harsh white in the living room. Most of the staff acted annoyed by even simple requests, though the two guys at the front desk were a bright spot. I wouldn’t recommend it. Other nearby hotels are just as convenient, and this one doesn’t live up to the Hilton name.
