The Earl of Sandwich Motel

The rooms and grounds were much nicer than the building exterior, which I hope the owners can spruce up a bit. Inside, everything was freshly renovated and spotless, with comfortable beds, a Keurig, mini fridge, microwave, and quiet heating and cooling units. The shower got warm, though never hot. The motel sits on a peaceful stretch of 6A, handy for Sandwich Village, Hyannis, and Rt 6, and there’s a pond the local ducks seem to enjoy. It was a great value for an off-season stay, and I’d absolutely come back. The staff were friendly and helpful, too.

I had a lot of fun feeding the pair of Geese leftover bread from dinner by the pond. There’s a big grassy area at the back with wildlife, including Mallards. I stayed in Room #25, the last unit in one of the blocks, and waited about 10 minutes for the water to get warm. It never got hot enough for a proper hot shower. The room itself was clean and recently refurbished, the King-size bed was wonderful, and the small refrigerator worked well. There was also a coffee maker. The staff were pleasant, and the quiet location on 6A is good. At $110 and change for a King in October, the price on Cape Cod is hard to beat. The Tudor-style exterior looks dated, though, and the landscaping needs care. I hope they’ll remove the dark wood trim, paint the walls a solid color, wash the moss from the asphalt shingles, work on the landscaping, and update the sign. That could help the motel charge more and bring in more revenue. I mean it as kind advice, not malice. I want the owners to succeed.

There’s a friendly goose roaming around, honking and waggling its tail feathers like it wants to make friends. The place itself is quiet, cozy, clean, and restful, with a simple charm that felt just right. Sadly, my trip got cut short. Maybe I’ll make it back.

The way my wife and I were treated was disappointing. It felt like we were treated that way because we weren’t heroin addicts or the usual kind of drunk. I was embarrassed that a place like this was on the Cape, where I was born and raised. The customer service was terrible, and the living conditions were even worse. I’ve never seen this motel in such a disastrous state. Don’t waste your money here. There are a couple of places two miles away that are cheaper, much nicer, and offer free breakfast. Never again.
