La Quinta Inn by Wyndham El Paso West

I travel around the US for work several times a week, and this is the only hotel that has made me feel compelled to leave a negative review at all. I wouldn't recommend staying here. I disclosed my disability and requested a first-floor room two hours after check-in time. When they said none were available, I asked for the same room I'd had before, next to the inside stairwell, and they assured me I'd get it. When I arrived, that room wasn't available either. They said the only option was on the third floor at the opposite end of the hotel, even though the parking lot looked mostly empty. The woman at the desk said, “if you want to cancel, go ahead” and that was all they had. Only after I pushed her to look again did she mention some two-bed rooms on the second floor. Management had told me to call early to request those rooms, which I did. The front desk was rude and unhelpful. I don't understand how they can say they can't accommodate ADA guests after I followed their advice.

We spent a full week in the accessible room and were quite pleased. The rooms had no odd smells, and the staff were always helpful, keeping us supplied with towels and extra coffee. There’s a restaurant right beside the hotel and Walmart across the street, which was convenient. For the price, it was a very nice stay. The photo I’m including was taken when it first started snowing at the end of January.

For a budget stay, this worked out really well for one night. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and breakfast had a better selection than I expected. It's an older building that could use some work, but the room was clean aside from a few carpet stains. The location was handy, right beside a Cracker Barrel. I'd book here again.

The staff were genuinely nice and helpful, which is the main reason I gave the place two stars. The rest of the experience was poor, with several promised basics missing or unreliable. My room smelled of smoke or weed, despite the hotel saying it was nonsmoking and family-friendly. They moved me to a second room that smelled the same, then gave me an upper-floor room that was okay. The rooms seemed the same; at least that one didn't have the smell. Bathroom fixtures were old and coming loose from the wall. The pool and elevator were both out of service. Laundry was available with one washer and dryer, but staff had no quarters, so I had to go to a nearby hotel for change. They should keep change on hand for guests. Conditioner was unavailable throughout my four-night stay until the third day, so I bought some across the street at Walmart. They said they would clean the room on the second and fourth days, but skipped it because Thanksgiving was the fourth day and said they forgot. Staff were cleaning rooms next door that day, so they could have serviced mine. Breakfast ran from 6 to 9 and was limited to waffles, bread, coffee, and milk. At 8, there were no waffles left, which was a problem for the kids, and staff didn't seem concerned about keeping enough food stocked. The facilities, room service they promised, and supplies included in the rate were all lacking. I hope someone reads this and fixes things.
