Samuel Elbert Hotel

The room was spacious, fairly quiet, and in a nice location, but the hotel needs some improvements. Parking is in the back because the front is limited to two hours, so you have to haul your things up the hill to the entrance or take the stairs at the back. When we arrived, the front desk was empty for about 15 minutes, and the only elevator is tiny. The fridge wasn't clean and didn't keep things cool. The AC couldn't cool the room enough for comfortable sleep. Also, the bathroom door has a frosted window, so using the light at night floods the sleeping area. I want to love this hotel, but those issues got in the way.

The rooms were clean and really spacious, and the hotel is close to everything in town. Breakfast could use a little more variety. Very nice place, highly recommended.

The hotel is beautiful and well located, and everything besides the bed area was very clean. But I don't think the sheets had been changed before I checked in. I have shoulder-length blonde hair, and when I got into bed I found several short black hairs and stains on the sheets. It was so late that I just got in anyway and made sure to shower in the morning. That's why I gave it three stars instead of five.

The lobby and in-house bar/restaurant had nice decor and atmosphere, and the back patio was pleasant. We didn't eat or drink there, so I can't rate that. In the room, the bed, bath, loveseat, and Keurig coffeemaker were positives. Public parking was easy and plentiful, and there wasn't much going on in Elberton that weekend. The facility is beautifully renovated, but management was unimpressive during our stay. We understand some new hires were due to start soon and might improve things. Check-in staff were aloof at best, a poor fit for the position. The thermostat's limit was too high to cool the room properly, and the TV was fixed to the wall in such an odd spot that it was useless to watch from either the loveseat or bed. The continental breakfast wasn't stocked or maintained well enough. It was reasonably comfortable, but overpriced by 25-50%. With fees and taxes adding about 16-20%, I wouldn't consider staying again at a published rate above roughly $110. It needs improvement.
