Motel 6 Elk City, OK

I booked two rooms while traveling west after seeing all the five-star reviews from the past month, and I was shocked by what we found. I suspect people living there were given free rent for posting those reviews. We were greeted and given the key words when we arrived, but old smoke and mildew filled the place so badly it overwhelmed the senses. Both rooms had the same problems, though the roaches were in different spots. In one, a roach crawled out when I pulled back the linens, and there were several burn holes in them, despite it being a non-smoking room. I took a quick shower, but the tub filled up and took forever to drain. I slept on top of the blankets with the heat cranked up and kept the lights on to keep the roaches away. I thought leaving lights on at Motel 6 meant something else. I'd never recommend this place to anyone I like. My ex-wife, though, I'd send her here in a hurry. This roach motel needs to be demolished.

A car wreck left me with a broken foot and other injuries, so I needed a first-floor room. Motel 6 came through on short notice in the middle of the night. The room was basic but clean, with a microwave, fridge, DirectTV, and free WiFi. The bed was comfortable too. Debbie and the night worker, whose name I regretfully can't remember, were excellent, friendly, and accommodating. I recommend the place. If you see a guy out front in a suave hat and robe, that's the entertaining resident John. Tell him Brady says hello.

People were nice, and there were no problems with them, but that's about the limit of the positives. The TV had good channels like HBO and Cinemax. The room cost around $55, but I'd rather sleep in my car. Smoke gets into every room through the connected ventilation, and blankets had cigarette burns. The floor was filthy, towels dirty, and furniture stained. I've taken two showers a day for as long as I can remember, but I wasn't going to shower here. I put water in a bowl and it stayed cloudy for a long time. I don't know why, maybe chlorine? There's nowhere nearby to walk for food, so you'd have to drive to the Love’s truck stop for Subway. Some regulars seem to live there. If you're a woman or older, definitely don't stay here. I've stayed in some bad places, and this is in my top three. Sleep in your car or keep driving to somewhere better. Motel 6 should take its name off this place. It needs to be torn down and started over.

The floor was sticky, although the room was fairly clean. The beds were made but in extremely poor shape, and the non-smoking room, along with the lobby, smelled strongly of smoke. This hotel needs a complete renovation.
