Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Elkhart

This place is a dump, and I only stayed because my work made the reservation and I couldn't change it. The parking lot and the building outside were dark, with no lighting. Inside, there was dust everywhere and debris in the AC unit. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed and there was trash on it. My socks turned black from walking across the floor. The towels were so old they had holes, and the TV was small with all the cords visible behind it. The room coffee maker was old and outdated. Rooms are only cleaned once every THREE days. The room wasn't clean and the AC didn't work properly. The only bathroom outlet didn't work, so I couldn't use the wall mounted hairdryer and had to do my hair in the room. Luckily there were wall to wall mirrors above the beds. The motion sensor switches were inconvenient for anyone except the hotel trying to save on electricity. I had to keep waving my arms to get the lights back while reading. The free breakfast was a waffle maker and a crockpot of something, plus a sign saying, "Microtel is required only to serve granola bar, muffin, coffee, juice. Enjoy". In other words, don't complain about the crappy breakfast, because they act like a dirty waffle maker and some breakfast surprise in a crockpot are going above and beyond.

The bed was clean, and the location worked for us because our truck was being repaired at Dan's. But the door lock never worked from the first day. Instead of fixing it, we had to call the desk clerk up to the second floor to unlock it with a hard key every time. The TV didn't work either, so they taped the cord with Scotch tape. When I tried the hair dryer, it caught fire. The showerhead was dirty.

We were in town for a concert at Notre Dame, an easy enough drive away, and there were several places to eat nearby. We stayed two nights and the price was worth it, provided you check the room and bed size against how close you want to sleep to the person sharing the bed. We booked a room listed for two, but the bed really wasn't big enough for two people who don't plan to cuddle. The TV remote didn't work, though that wasn't why we were there, so it didn't matter much. The ice machine was out of order.

The lobby and main hallways were warm and humid, with no air conditioning. Our room had AC, but it left the carpet soaked around the unit and along the whole side of the bed. One bed's sheets were dirty, cobwebs hung from the light fixture, the beds made an odd noise, and the place smelled. I complained about the wet floor and was told they were sold out, but they could move us the next day after our activities. I had to ask for towels just to put down on the floor. I wouldn't recommend staying here, even for a short visit.
