Staybridge Suites Elkhart North by IHG

The room was filthy when we finally got in, even though they’d denied early check-in because they needed time to clean. The tub and toilet were dirty, there was hair in the bathroom, the floors hadn’t been swept, and the sheets were still dirty under a blanket they’d just pulled up. There were coffee stains and an old filter in the pot, leftovers in the fridge, and the walls were filthy. The beds, couch, and chairs were dated, and the chair backs looked scratched by animals. I booked a two-bedroom suite that sleeps six for my daughter’s 10th birthday, and as a rewards member I’ve never had trouble asking for early check-in before. At 3 p.m. I was told about a $250 deposit that hadn’t been mentioned when booking or in my confirmation. The desk said nothing could be done until housekeeping clocked in at 5, and there was no other room for five people. They also said that because I’d booked through a third party, I’d still be charged for the night if I left, but promised a housekeeper would clean and asked if I could wait. I took my daughter and her three friends out to dinner while they cleaned, then asked for cleaner when we came back so I could clean more myself. I was charged more than they’d said, and all they offered was extra points and an extra hour in the room so the kids could enjoy the pool. I have pictures. I’ve never been so unhappy with a hotel stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The way they treat rewards members is unacceptable.

I paid $211 and could smell a deep mold odor as soon as I entered the hotel. Someone smoking cigarettes in the room below was coming through the bathroom. The couches were covered in stains, and the laundry room was disgusting: every washer was filthy, only one dryer worked, and the other made a piercing squeal and scraping sound. I’ve read other reviews saying the same things, and it doesn’t seem like anything has been done in years.

I’m here often for work and would definitely recommend the hotel. The rooms are roomy and consistently clean, and the staff are great. Robert especially goes out of his way to take care of guests. Thanks.

We had a great time celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary here. Chasity was so sweet and wonderful during the happy hour they put on, and we got to chat with some lovely people for quite a while. It’s a beautiful place to stay, the beds are super comfortable, and we’ll definitely come back.
