Holiday Inn Express & Suites West Omaha - Elkhorn by IHG

Breakfast was good, with the usual muffins, toast, cereal, coffee and tea, plus omelettes, sausage and make-your-own pancakes. The eating area was clean and had plenty of seats. Parking seemed limited for a hotel this size, though we found a space without trouble. We chose the hotel for its location near where we needed to be Saturday morning, but I don’t think I’d stay again. We paid almost $250 with tax for one Friday night, booking ten days ahead, and expected something nicer. The room was clean and average-sized, with four pillows on each bed, but the mattresses were too soft for us. The bathroom was clean, with dispensers for soap, shampoo and lotion, though the lotion smelled old and spoiled. The tub and shower had no grab bar to help when getting out. The towels were thin and scratchy, like burlap, worse than towels I’ve had at a budget motel. It was noisy: people and dogs in the hallway, a neighbor’s alarm in the morning, and his heavy footsteps as he moved around next door. The check-in clerk spoke very quickly with a strong accent, so I had to ask her to repeat herself several times. She gave us a bag with one small packet of chips and a miniature Twix, which seemed pointless. At checkout, we saw another couple struggle to communicate with the clerk about the pool before giving up. The housekeeper, a friendly man, worked hard and smiled at everyone. He was the only employee we saw apart from the front desk staff.
