Rodeway Inn

The bed was hard and extremely uncomfortable, and the room was filthy, with stains and spills all over the carpet and furniture. There was just one towel in the room. We also got a parking ticket even though the clerk told us where to park and "maintenance" guided us there. The room plus ticket ended up costing more than the nicest place in town. While my husband checked in, I waited outside. An employee let a large dog out, and it ran up to me, sniffed me and my things, peed on the asphalt right behind me, then ran off. We were told there were cameras everywhere and our vehicle would be safe, but the only outdoor camera we saw had half a dozen loose wires hanging off it. The listing on hotels.com was mid priced and had no photos. That should’ve been my first clue. You’d be safer and more comfortable sleeping in your car or a convenience store bathroom.

The door was paper thin, and we could hear the neighbors shouting. The bathroom had failing drywall, there was gritty sand on the floor, and hair was left in the tub drain. We paid in advance, but should have gone somewhere else. I used to find Rodeway motels clean, quiet, and cared for, if a bit old. Rodeway should be ashamed of this one. The front desk person was missing, then sullen when called. The first room hadn’t been made up. When I asked for another, there was no apology, just a comment that the new room had two beds but I wouldn’t be charged extra. That room had no towels and a pile of dirt in the corner. I suggest going elsewhere.

My husband opened the room door, walked back out, got in the car, and we left. Even sitting in the car, I felt completely unsafe. They’re now saying we won’t get a refund and charged us a no-show fee. We drove to the Best Western instead, and I’m glad to pay more than double to stay there. We’d booked a weekend based on the nice online photos and Rodeway’s generally decent reputation, but this place was disgusting. There were broken windows covered with tape, and one had only plastic sheeting. Garbage was scattered around, and an exterior light had exposed wires hanging from it. The office lights were out, with a phone number on the door. We called, and a woman who sounded asleep woke just long enough to say our keys were in an unsecured metal mailbox. DO NOT STAY HERE!

It felt neither clean nor safe, so don’t waste your time or money. Eventually the staff member gave me keys to a room smaller than the one we paid for, and it was still dirty, with no linens and food trash from the previous guests. We arrived at 5:30pm to check in, even though the room was supposed to be ready at 4pm. The front desk person was incredibly unprofessional and incompetent. She told every guest checking in that the beds weren’t made yet. When it was my turn, she’d "lost my booking" and made no effort to fix it until I asked. She complained the housekeeping staff were "mad because they had to do 21 rooms in one day", that they were overbooked, and that she hadn’t had time to wash the linens yet. How is that the guests’ problem?
