My daughter and I stayed one night while I took part in the UP Honor Flight. The shower was great, the towels were good quality, and the staff were friendly. The hotel was very clean and in a convenient location. We had to move our phones around because two outlets in the room didn't work, and we needed them charged for a 3am start. We left too early to try any amenities, but I’d stay here again.
The first room’s wall AC was struggling badly. Even after running for hours set at 60, the room stayed uncomfortably warm, so I had to open a window. The night desk person moved me to a room where the AC worked. That room looked older and hadn't been redone yet, but at least the unit wasn't fighting the thermostat.
The mattress was quite hard and felt like an older one on a platform, which was uncomfortable for me. Even so, we’ve stayed at Magnuson twice and will keep choosing it when we visit family in Escanaba Michigan. The place is very clean and the employees are exceptional. The first time, last October, we left another motel after a water problem meant we couldn't brush our teeth that night or shower the next morning. Magnusson found us a room immediately and gave us a discount for the trouble. The other place only took $15 off, which I thought was ridiculous, and we won’t return there. We’ve also convinced family who travel with us to switch to Magnuson. Thanks for being kind, keeping the place clean, and helping whenever we need something.
The continental breakfast was very well stocked, and there’s a great restaurant attached. The vending machines are decent too. The AC kept battling the furnace and losing, and the room was otherwise okay. TV channels are grouped in a strange way, though there are more than you first notice. The location is nice, with just a short walk or drive to most things in town. Great hotel, I’ll be back soon.
The staff were excellent, and the rest of the hotel felt quaint and comfortable. My room hadn’t been renovated, but it was clean, just dated and a bit rough around the edges. The carpet looked old and kind of dirty, and the broken security chain on the door needs an important fix, especially for a woman staying alone. I tried to eat at the restaurant, but the staff seemed more focused on chatting with each other than serving customers, so I left without ordering. It’s not a deal breaker, though some customer service training could help. I’d stay again.
