Super 8 by Wyndham Escondido

Once I arrived, the things I'd been worried about from the reviews weren't an issue. The room was nice and very clean. I called ahead to ask about early check-in, and the front desk guy kindly said yes. I also requested a ground floor room when I got there, and that was no problem either. I'd stay here again.

We slept well for the two nights and the bed was comfortable. The sheets smelled clean, and the tub was clean too. The elevator and ice machine both worked, and there are two ways to reach the rooms, through the lobby or around it. It's an old building that seems to be getting room updates, so we saw a mix of very old and brand-new furniture. There was noise from our room's AC, and the first night I spotted two spiders on the ceiling. I travel with bug spray because I have a 3yo baby, and I killed them. The closed door had a gap between it and the frame, which I think is where bugs could get in. You get what you pay for.

The front desk service was good, especially from the very kind and helpful woman there. The room was clean, the facilities were good, and I was lucky to get one with handy amenities this past weekend. We were on the first floor next to the pool. At first that seemed great, but it got noisy as the afternoon turned into evening, with lots of people swimming. We had to wait until the pool's time limit before we could rest quietly. We will definitely come back.

We were disappointed with this Super 8. The maids hadn't cleaned the room properly before check-in, and when we asked them to clean later, they only made the beds and didn't leave fresh towels or anything else. We also had to wait all night for a coffee machine. Check-in took a long time because they said our reservations weren't there. We showed the email, but they still couldn't find them in the computer, yet somehow gave us rooms on the wrong floor. There were homeless people and addicts hanging around day and night, and we didn't feel comfortable going outside with the kids. We've stayed at many Super 8s, and this one was a letdown.
