The resort has a wonderful pool and lazy river, and the private beach was fantastic and clean. Shopping and food are about a 10-minute drive away, with Old Bonita around 30 minutes out. Getting there was difficult, though: the hotel is tucked away, and the route had construction, odd turns, and small signs. I'd avoid it without a car. T-Mobile service was weak, so I relied on Wi-Fi most of the time. We rented a two-bedroom room, and it was just okay, with several things broken or not working. The tub's jet button fell through when we pressed it, as if it had never been attached. In the master bath, the glass shower enclosure was crooked and its doors couldn't close without hitting each other. I worried the glass might shatter. There was mold on the master shower grout at the bottom and where the tile met the wall. The microwave didn't work, and the available pots had flaking Teflon. The playground was okay, but closed for renovations the day we arrived. Hopefully it'll be new and exciting when the work is done. One more thing: at check-in they make you speak with a concierge who tries to sign you up for a 90-minute timeshare presentation.
Getting food or groceries was a chore because the hotel is so remote, down a long winding road with construction debris and signs everywhere. Food delivery may get lost in the sprawling complex, as ours did, since the directions aren't clear. The rooms also have no soundproofing. A small entry area between neighboring doors carries noise, so I could hear people talking normally as well as yelling. Front doors slam and echo through the night, and you have to pass through two doors to reach your unit. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable, and the AC seemed to offer only two settings, very cold and damp or very warm and moist. Housekeeping isn't provided unless you call for individual items. We made several requests for extra towels over text before a plastic bag of them was left on the floor by our door later that night. I could go on. If the cheaper nightly rate still sounds worth dealing with all this, good luck, and I hope you don't get the partygoers we had.
We had a lovely view of the golf course from our small studio, which had everything we needed. Being right across from the pools and restaurants was convenient. The restaurant itself was very basic, but food could be delivered anywhere in the resort. There were plenty of well-kept pools, and we really enjoyed the lazy river. The setting was more remote than I expected, about a 10-minute drive from shopping and restaurants, though the hotel offered a free shuttle. Our room wasn't cleaned or maintained at all during our three-night stay, which was disappointing. We could call the front desk for supplies, but I would have liked the treat of a freshly made bed. We enjoyed the stay overall and would come back.
The pool was nice, but the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and the private beach was booked throughout our four-night stay. They kept pushing a timeshare before check-in and continued after we arrived. We said no and ended up in a terrible room. Our room was never cleaned, and we got no fresh towels the whole time. At checkout they charged a $35-per-day resort fee, saying it covered “free parking and free WiFi.” That's not free when it's part of a charge. Never staying here again.
We've stayed at this location about 30 times, it feels like our home away from home. The lazy river and pool bars are awesome. Adonis and Valeria always take great care of us, and Sam at the front desk does a great job. Congrats on your promotion, Sam! Building one has been updated, which was a pleasant surprise. See you in May!
