Econo Lodge

We’d stay at Econo Lodge again. The room was small but worked well for a short visit, and it was clean without noise coming through from other rooms. The king bed was comfortable, with a top sheet, blanket, and light bedspread that made it easy to adjust the bedding and stay comfortable, neither too hot nor too cold.

The staff were kind and seemed to care about the guests, and the location is 2 miles from U of O. The rest of the stay was awful. The king bed was comfortable, but the pillows were lumpy and the toilet kept running for over an hour after use, making it hard to sleep. The TV remote didn’t let me change channels or volume, and its back was missing. There was no toilet paper holder, toilet paper, or tissues. The towels were dirty, and there was mold growing by the tub. When I turned on the shower, water sprayed everywhere, even over the curtain. The bedside tables had no handles, and tissues were jammed in the TV stand door to hold it shut. It’s supposed to be a no pet hotel, but the people below me had dogs barking all night. It’s also supposed to be smoke free, yet my curtains and comforter had burn holes. I wouldn’t recommend staying here; it wasn’t worth the money.

We booked the suite and were happy with it: a living room area with a couch, two queen beds, a microwave, and a mini fridge. Just keep expectations in line with an Econo Lodge suite, not a Marriott suite, which is why the prices are low. We stayed five nights, and the room stayed clean with the housekeeper keeping up with everything. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the motel was quiet, with no ruckus from other guests. There were no bugs, not even ants, which seem to get into almost everything in Eugene. The bath and shower were really nice, and the showerhead had three settings. I don’t know why people have left such bad reviews!

I was ready for a budget stay, but not somewhere that felt unsafe or unclean. We checked in, stepped into the room, and were back out asking for a refund within about 10 seconds. The carpet had a big black stain that I could only assume was some kind of mold, and the air smelled unbearable, like mold or mothballs mixed with bleach. The bathroom towels had yellow stains too. At rates like $200 a night, how can they not provide clean linens? The manager said she had “never had a complaint,” which I found hard to believe.
