The rates at Holiday Inn Chicago North-Evanston are often among the lowest in the greater Chicago area, and I found it a decent place to stay. The staff were pleasant on both of my visits. I stayed several days once before and had no problems, and a friend who stayed more recently had no issues either. The one concern came on the first night of my second stay: I woke up with bites on my leg. I told the staff, and they looked at them. We agreed they might have been mosquito bites and could have come in on my clothing. I understand why some people might see that as the hotel deflecting responsibility, but insects in a room don't necessarily mean there's an infestation or that the insects were there before a guest arrived. I've also seen people post a tick photo and call it a bed bug. I wish people would learn more before writing reviews that affect others' opinions. I haven't been back since, mainly because I've gotten better at finding deals at other hotels with amenities, property conditions, and locations I prefer. Respectfully.

The card controlled elevators made me feel especially safe traveling alone as a woman, and you can walk to just about anything from here. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and well cared for. The rooms are good quality too, from the shower, AC and heat to the beds and flooring. The front desk staff are amazing, and Nassima went above and beyond. I came for one night to see a doctor nearby, and after how good the stay was, I've already booked a fun trip for next month. I feel lucky to have found this place.

The bathtub was the main room issue: it didn't drain properly, so there was about a foot of water while I showered. Also, the top level of the parking deck hadn't been plowed or cleared, which made driving and getting around up there difficult. Otherwise, this is a nice hotel. The front desk staff are very friendly, and both the lobby and rooms were clean. The location is convenient for getting to Chicago at a reasonable price. I've stayed here before and would stay again.

Mr Cachito and Soulwich are both great, and there are lots of other fun restaurants and coffee shops within easy walking distance. The university is close by on foot, and downtown Chicago is an easy drive. Service was friendly. The room was fine, though it could use some updating. Our only minor issue was the adjoining door. It could do a better job blocking sound, since we heard the guests next door talking as if they were in our room. Luckily, they seemed to keep the same schedule we did.

Parking felt sketchy, dark, poorly lit, and not secure, yet it still costs $18 a day. Noise was another problem. From the 11th floor, traffic and trains sounded so loud they seemed to be inside the room, and I struggled to sleep each night. The room was extremely dirty, with dust all over the carpet and visible stains on the sofa chair. I wouldn't have wanted to sit there. I’ll include photos. After a shower, I tried the hair dryer and it buzzed and sparked at the plug. Nothing serious happened, but it could have caused an electrical accident. They replaced it when I called, though I still felt unsafe. On my first day, jetlagged and trying to rest, I was woken twice early in the morning. First they called to ask if I was smoking because an alarm supposedly detected something, even though I was asleep. An hour later they called to ask if I was checking out, despite my reservation clearly saying I was staying until Monday. No one apologized for waking me. Housekeeping was uneven too. On day three they took my used towels and left no replacements. Reception told me I had to come downstairs to get fresh ones when I called. The hotel feels old, dirty, poorly managed, and careless, with unsafe conditions. I absolutely wouldn't recommend staying here.
