Wedgewood Resort

A nice place to take it easy, enjoy a vacation, or spend time on a business trip. They have restaurants and food, plus good social areas and a large event room. The ballroom and decorations are very nice, and the space would work for planned activities or parties. There's a lot to enjoy here if you're looking to relax.

This was the worst hotel I've stayed in, and I won't come back because of the property's condition and safety issues. The staff were kind and did their best, and the apartment-style units are large with full kitchens, which could be a plus. But the rooms felt decades out of date. The bed and couch looked like they were from the 1970s, with old springs and what seemed to be original bed covers, and the room smelled awful. My room wasn't ready until 5:30 p.m. An ozone generator had been run in it before I checked in, and another was running in the room below. Gas filled the hallway and stairwell. The doors and windows opened only about an inch, so I couldn't get fresh air circulating. I developed a headache and asked to change rooms. I explained that ozone gas is hazardous and generators shouldn't run in occupied spaces. I was told the area had been taped off, but it wasn't properly sealed. I saw it myself, it wasn't taped, and the machine was running. Someone was also spraying for bed bugs during our stay, which was very concerning. The campus is huge and hard to navigate. In negative 30 degree weather, walking from the rooms to the main office isn't practical. No one disclosed this, despite my calls and emails to the coordinator while planning an event and asking about layout and accessibility. There's no elevator anywhere, making all those flights of stairs inaccessible for many guests. Basic changes would help a lot: new bedding, windows that open, clear information about the campus, and proper safety steps with ozone machines.

It's okay, and the price isn't bad for what you get, but Wedgewood has been in Fairbanks a long time and is showing its age. The curtains could use replacing, and it'd be nice if sheets were provided for the sofa bed. The TV picture was blurry, maybe because of reception. The front desk didn't always have the little extras people might have forgotten. Ask for a second-floor room if you don't want to keep the curtains shut.

The company arranged one night at Wedgewood Resort after an activity on our Alaska trip ran into a problem. We’d been put in a room that meant climbing four flights of stairs, which wasn’t workable after our back and knee surgeries. The front desk staff quickly moved us to a ground-floor unit. They were wonderful and helped make the stay a good one. Thank you to everyone involved.
