The front desk man was nice, and check-in and checkout went smoothly, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The room smelled of smoke and felt grimy. There were dead roaches on the floor and spider webs around the room, and the toilet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. We had booked for two people but got just one towel. The king bed had only two flat pillows. It was very cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for.

The one good thing was the instant hot water. Otherwise, the room had black mold near the window, a dirty toilet, and mold specks on the shower curtain. The popcorn ceiling was peeling and hanging down, and the walls had patches of mismatched paint where light fixtures had been. The room key or card didn’t work in the door, so the attendant had to let us in. We had reservations and found it hard to communicate with him because of a language barrier. If it hadn’t been so late, we would’ve left, even if it meant losing our money. It’s a shame this rundown hotel represents such a nice area.

The price was the best part, and the staff were very friendly. The shower was hot, and the bed was comfortable enough, but I didn’t sleep well because I was worried about taking a roach home. One appeared as soon as I turned on the room lights, and in the morning I found the coffee pot filthy. When I went to check out and report the problems, nobody was at the desk. A sign said to pick up the phone for help. I did, waited 5-10 minutes, and no one came. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel even at its low price. There are four or five places that look much nicer another 5-10 minutes up I-77 North.

For a $60 no-frills hotel, the room was good and I wasn’t expecting luxury. The view was beautiful, and as a truck driver I really appreciated the huge parking area behind the hotel. It was easy to get in and out. The front desk guy didn’t seem to speak much English, but he was friendly and checked me in without trouble. Worth the money if you’re passing through. I’d stay again if I needed a reset near Fancy Gap.
