The linens were the main drawback. They were clean, but the sheets, towels, and rags were all thin and worn and due to be replaced. The bedding was comfortable, though, even if it looked dated. For a place this cheap, I was glad it was clean. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, the cooler did the job, and there were outlets by the bed. We used the fridge and microwave, and there was a big counter by the sink for getting ready. The TV was small, and we didn’t use it. There’s no phone in the room and the bathroom is tiny, but if you’re only sleeping there, the price makes it a good deal. Pets aren’t allowed. After we came back from dinner, the manager thought I had a small dog, came to our door, and checked that we didn’t have one. He was polite about it, and I appreciated a cheap place actually enforcing its rules. I’d recommend it for a quiet overnight stop while traveling through, though several days might be less convenient.

The non-smoking room was very clean and had no bad smell. The water pressure was strong and the water hot, and the air conditioner worked well. I stayed one night, and the bed was comfortable enough for a quick stop.

The owners on site were nice, and the basics worked well: hot water, heat, AC, a fridge, and cleaning. The vintage decor was really cool, and you can park for free right outside the door, with no elevators or stairs to deal with. Some very good, busy restaurants are an easy walk away, as is a fun coffee shop and art gallery. Both trade workers and travelers stay here. Bring an iron or hair dryer if you need one. Not every room has a kitchenette, and those rooms book up. The downtown sidewalks along that stretch of main street felt eerily empty early in the morning and on weekends, when most businesses were shut apart from a gym and the restaurants. We saw a few transients while walking. Traffic picked up in the afternoon, and the hotel filled up.

The woman who checked me in was kind and curious about my medical condition. I live with brain damage for the rest of my life, and I welcome that kind of curiosity. It was my first time booking through Hotels.com, and I was pleased. She explained checkout, which seemed simple and reasonable. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the bath had great pressure and temperature. There’s an awning moss Riverwalk nearby, and I walked there from the hotel for exercise. A wonderful gallery coffee shop is next door. Simple, and simply good.
