The Morris Harvey House

The bedding was the cleanest and softest I've ever felt, and the owners were amazingly sweet. It's a really beautiful home, historically accurate too. If you're into history and a good cocktail, this is the place to stay.

The Rosa Suite was just right for our elopement weekend. We also loved the speakeasy, where the cocktails and charcuterie looked as good as they tasted. It felt like stepping into another time. If you're near Fayetteville and need a place to stay, this is a charming, romantic spot.

We really hoped to love the Inn. The room was clean, the linens felt soft, and I liked the political statement outside so much that I took photos and posted them on Facebook. The old photos and all the things on the shelves weren't for me, though. I found the bedroom decor creepy, and the mannequin in the hall in its black dress was especially unsettling when I got up for the bathroom in the middle of the night. We arrived at 3:30 during a road trip, but check-in wasn't until 4 and the entry code didn't work early, so we waited outside or in the car. There was nobody at the house to greet us. Inside, it was very hot. Our bedroom had air conditioning, but it didn't cool the whole room well, and the upstairs hall and bathroom had none. I was hot for much of the night, then cold. Getting up the steep, narrow stairs was also a challenge. The mirrors along the back stairs made me worry we might hit them with our luggage. The town is small and there wasn't much to do. We had a good meal at Pizza and Pints, then were back in the room shortly after 7. There was no TV, so we watched a movie on our small laptop. My husband and I like to watch news and weather, and having a TV would have made the stay more enjoyable. This place just wasn't for us.

I spent two nights at the Historic Morris Harvey House Inn and found it lovely, with decor that fit the era when the house was built. It still had handy modern touches, including self check-in, Wi-Fi, and a minibar with wine, sodas, and more.
