Quality Inn New River

The location was a big plus, just minutes from New River Gorge, and we needed one of the few pet-friendly options nearby. We never felt unsafe, but I was disappointed. My husband would rate it zero, while I'd give it four out of ten. It worked for us because of the location and pet policy, though the hotel needs a much deeper clean and repairs. Our room looked clean on the surface, but the carpet was filthy, the shower tiles had mildew, and there was a musty smell. We found blood on the carpet and bathroom doorjamb. The tray under the ice bucket looked like it had been used as a cutting board. The laundry room was out of service, and breakfast was lackluster, though the donut holes were a nice surprise. We had the last room in the back building, where Route 19 highway noise was significant. The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure excellent. The Whitewater Grill in the back building was surprisingly good, so we ate there both nights. We tried spaghetti, peppery but tasty, wings, smothered chicken, sirloin, and the mules were great.

The beds and pillows seemed newer, and it's a clean, comfortable place. The location by the national park is amazing. My only complaint: the water pressure was awful. After a sweaty day hiking, I was really looking forward to a decent shower.

The bar and grill was lively, convenient, and very good, and the location puts you near lots of hiking trails and natural spots. The hotel has just about everything except a gym. We only stayed one night but will come back at the first chance, probably next week. The desk called before we arrived to ask whether we had any requests. When we got there, the woman was courteous and helpful, and gave us a lower-level room when we asked. It was one of the cleanest motel rooms I've stayed in, quiet, with comfortable beds.

Elliott Bar & Grill was good, and the service there was great. Hotel staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, but the door barely shut unless we shoved it hard. It looked like someone had kicked it in more than once. Getting the shower to work was really difficult. At $134 a night on a weekend, it felt overpriced. Breakfast was hot but had no variety or fruit, and it was a bit of a mess. There were so many people it was hard to move around.
