La Quinta Inn & Suites Florence

I stay at La Quinta often, but this Florence, South Carolina location was not clean. There was hair in the tub, and the TV and phone didn’t work. We also waited more than 20 minutes to check in because we couldn’t find the front desk person. The breakfast staff in the morning were unfriendly, frankly rude. I smiled, said good morning, and complimented how nice everything looked, but barely got a response. I’ll never stay at this establishment again.

The staff were all welcoming, accommodating, and understanding, but the hotel itself was poor quality. Our first room wasn’t clean or ready, so we asked for another. The second smelled like dog urine, as if someone with a dog had just stayed there. For the third room they upgraded us to a very nice, spacious suite. I checked for bed bugs and didn’t see any, but there was a huge roach in the toilet, and it wouldn’t flush. The carpets and walls in the halls were dirty and the whole place smelled gross. We ended up at the holiday inn express, which was much better. Again, the staff were lovely. The hotel condition was the problem.

I was only there for one night, but would definitely recommend this nice, clean hotel. It has free breakfast, lots of parking, and a swimming pool. If you need a pet-friendly hotel chain, I’d also recommend the Wyndham Awards program and credit card.

We had to clean up after the room ourselves. The beds squeaked, there was hair in the shower, mud on the bathroom floor, and something like yogurt on the curtain. The toilet seat itself was clean, but there was crusted urine behind where it attaches to the bowl. Door handles and light switches were greasy and needed wiping down. Thankfully, the front desk staff were helpful when we asked for another blanket. If they improve the cleaning, this could be an okay place to stay.
