We normally love Motel 6 and go out of our way to stay at them, but avoid the one in Florence, SC. The ceiling in our room was split open in several spots from water damage, and other parts were covered in mildew. The tub was dirty and rusty, with peeling paint, and some outlets had sticky grime on them. The comforter was a thin bit of material with little holes in it. We could hear cockroaches after turning off the lights, then see them scurrying along the floor edges when we switched them on. I think we got maybe five broken hours of sleep. Do yourself a favor and find another mote.

Cockroaches everywhere, ceilings falling apart, a disgusting bathroom, flooring coming up, and frayed curtains. Someone staying there, an employee or guest, got woken at 5:15 a.m. by someone banging on the neighboring door to get them up for work.

The place has bugs and mold, including roaches, and ownership has let it go downhill. The roaches crawl on you, and with the flies and people talking right outside the doorway, there was no peaceful sleep. The location is fine, but nearby restaurants aren't open all night. Only McDonald's, taco bell, and subway were open through the night.

At check-in they said they couldn't find my reservation and charged me more than the expected price. The room was awful. Paint was peeling off the ceiling, the tub overlay was bubbling up from the original tub, and the caulking around the edges was cracked. I'm almost 100% sure that caused the bubbling. There was mold in the shower, and when I reached to adjust the very wobbly shower head, I realized the whole section of wall was basically caulk. I planned to put up with it for two nights rather than sleep in my truck, but by the end I was ready to sleep in the truck. I also lost $1.50 in the drink machine because someone had smashed the coin return, leaving my money there for someone else. Then I saw a roach climbing the wall and couldn't get my phone out fast enough to take a picture. If I could give a negative rating, I would. Google only lets me give one star.

We hadn't planned to stop on our drive from Virginia to Savannah, Georgia, but after nearly being run off the road three times, the last by an 18 wheeler, we decided to stay the night. The receptionist was extremely friendly at check-in, and our room was clean. You can tell it's an older location that's had some updates. The shower and tub area was old and stained, though clean, and there wasn't outside noise to wake us. There were some questionable things left on the stairs. All things considered, we felt safe, and I'd be comfortable staying here again if I needed to.
