The Stricklin Hotel

The location is great, and the breakfast place downstairs has fantastic food with good GF options. But if you have mold allergies, avoid this hotel. Room 310, on the top floor, had mold across the ceiling. The second room had hair all over the bed and pillows, more scattered in the bathroom, and what looked like some residual mold. The manager came the first night to change the sheets, but we stayed in that room overnight. The following day, after multiple third-floor rooms had showers, water flooded both the bathroom and bedroom. The staff seemed more focused on whether someone was involved than on fixing the problem. They only seemed to believe us after seeing videos, and didn't check most of the issues, aside from the hair on the bed and the toilet and seat. I missed half the welcome party the first night and arrived late to the wedding the next day because of the flooding and the need to change hotels. They offered an air purifier to address the mold, refused a refund, and had a condescending attitude toward me and my family, especially the female manager.

With wooden floors throughout and a modern loft look in every room, this hotel is amazing. It's right in the heart of historic downtown Florence, AL, and convenient to restaurants along the trip too.

The finishes, service, and location were all great, with tons of restaurants close by. It's a stylish boutique hotel and was a cool experience, but the basics were lacking. I was shocked there wasn't a window in my room. The rooms are small, with nowhere convenient to put things. In Room 204 one side of the bed was completely broken down and really uncomfortable. The sink drained slowly, and the shower pan needed a proper scrub. I wouldn't stay longer than one night.

Stay Date: 4/11/25 I loved having a King room with no windows, as requested. It was pitch black, so I couldn't even tell it was 9 am. The bed was one of the best I've slept in at a hotel. Rooms are small but quaint, and a nice fit for a couple visiting town. The photos show bathtubs, but ours had only a shower. Some rooms have tubs and others have a big shower, so request whichever matters to you. My concern is safety overnight. There's no front desk on duty from 11 pm to 7 am, and computers were left open with information visible. The front door has a keypad but was completely unlocked, and several areas that looked like they needed a key card to reach the rooms didn't. I'd feel safer if cards were required during those hours. If an emergency happened, there might be no one to handle it. Calls to the front desk went to voicemail. Someone finally got up with us around 5:15 a.m., but I couldn't tell if they were front desk or another staff member. A BBB employee told us no one works overnight. If you leave your key in the room, there may be nobody to let you in. Phone keys are an option, but service in the building was spotty for me, so that's not fully reliable. Otherwise, the stay was wonderful, but this is a major safety concern. 4/14/25: I was asked by the manager to take down this review in exchange for a free night's stay. The manager or someone else said there is an overnight person, though who knows where they were. A BBB employee and a dayshift employee each confirmed on separate occasions that nobody works overnight.
