Silver Sands Motel

The staff made our family feel welcome, and the motel was quiet and comfortable throughout our stay. Our room was clean and well kept, and being right on Highway 101 made it easy to explore Florence. We’d happily stay at Silver Sands Motel again and recommend it to families passing through.

For $150 a night, I expected a lot better. Our second room had grimy floors, towels that looked used, and a bathtub plug that didn’t work. With no air conditioning, it became unbearably hot in the middle of summer. We started in the wrong room: the TV was broken, the curtains didn’t fully cover the windows, and despite being a non-smoking room, it smelled strongly of cigarettes. The front desk employee was very kind and promptly gave us another room, but moving all our belongings with two small children was a hassle. The place needs serious cleaning, updates, and better amenities. Unless it improves a lot, I’d recommend staying elsewhere, especially in summer or with kids.

The place felt nice, and they had three cute cats. My room was okay, though the floors seemed constantly dirty, like they never got a full cleaning. I didn’t get much of a look at the second room. The floor felt weak in places, as if it might give way into the ceiling of another room. The bathtub was chipping near the drain, and parts of the tile were broken enough to risk damaging socks or bare feet. I noticed frayed wire mesh at one corner when I opened the windows. During most of my trip, I saw people get a room and then never saw them again.

We needed somewhere to sleep for the night, so my fiance and I picked the motel over staying in the truck. After reading the comments, I was honestly nervous, but the room turned out clean and cozy. The beds were comfortable, and it was one of the first hotel rooms I’ve stayed in without a strange smell. The man who helped us was very pleasant. The rooms are a little dated and could use repairs and maintenance, but they weren’t gross, and the price was very affordable. There’s no AC, though that wasn’t awful on the coast, where it’s generally cool at night. The heater was on when we arrived, so we left the window open all night, which was kind of loud.
