Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Fond du Lac

The manager has a bad temper and was rude. A few days ago, she discriminated against me because I’m obese. I also saw her treating her employees, mostly Latina women, badly. She should show them more respect. The people who cleaned my room, 220, treated me better than she did.

The only good thing about this hotel was that it was clean. We stay in hotels across the US every week, and this was our 57th hotel this year alone. In ten years of travel, we’ve never dealt with management this unprofessional or with such bizarre, made-up “policies.” We usually read reviews first, but skipped our due diligence this time, and our whole crew paid for it. We’ll never stay here again under the current management. Breakfast was never stocked with enough food for five people. One morning I came down at 9:02 for coffee, and everything had already been put away. Even if breakfast ends at 9, other Fairfield hotels usually still have coffee. As I went back to the elevator, the manager stopped me to ask if I was a guest, then asked my room number and said something about cleaning and spraying it. It was our first morning there, after arriving very late the night before, and I didn’t know what she meant. After a long night at work the next morning, staff banged on the door and came into our room around 8:30 a.m. They demanded to clean because it was hotel policy. We were lucky we weren’t naked. It felt like an invasion of privacy. More than once, we heard the manager yelling and arguing with staff in the hallway. One employee called her “anal.” She also yelled at my husband when he asked them to stop entering while our Do Not Disturb hanger was on the door. He said that if these were real policies, they should be posted or explained when guests arrive. The pool was freezing, and the shower had empty soap bottles. The management was extremely rude and unprofessional, with policies nobody had heard of before. As other reviewers have said, she’ll probably respond that they can’t find my name in the system.

The manager wasn’t welcoming, and I’d tell anyone looking for good amenities and service to go next door to the Radisson. What hotel refuses to offer or allow late checkout, especially for Marriott Elite members? The parking lot was empty, so don’t tell me the room was needed on a Sunday in midwinter. We’d just spent 50k in Baltimore and got the same poor service. It’s time for me to switch from Bonvoy to somewhere that appreciates its guests. Don’t stay here.

This is the second time we’ve tried to hold a business meeting here using the conference room, and the second time it’s gone wrong. We clearly asked for meeting space, but were given a king suite instead. Both times we contacted Marriott corporate for help and got no meaningful assistance, so we had to cancel and move the meeting elsewhere. Booking a conference room seems like a basic request, yet this property has mishandled it repeatedly. Corporate’s lack of support made it worse. I have little confidence they can host our business meetings, and I won’t call a third time.
