Fort Davis Inn & R.V. Park

The couple who run the inn are really nice and helpful, and the beds are new and comfy. You can see they’ve made a lot of recent upgrades, both inside and out. I spotted beautiful summer tanagers from my window, and the roses were lovely. We enjoyed staying here and hope to come back next year.

The location is the motel’s best feature. It’s an old place with some effort put into improvements, but a coat of paint and a new TV don’t change what it is. The motel wasn’t full, yet I was charged $162 for a Queen non-smoking room listed at $84 on their own website. When I questioned the owner, or the person at the desk who I believe was the owner, he was contrary and insisted I’d made the reservation online, so he couldn’t do anything. I said there was no way I’d book this place for more than a stay at the nearby, much nicer Indian Lodge. After some back and forth, he said he’d “take care of it the morning.” I left at 630 the next morning, and the charge still hadn’t changed. I never received an email confirmation from the site, either. Check the reservation price before signing in through his digital process.

The room was excellent, and the TV channels all worked well with a good selection. Breakfast came with sandwiches that had protein, plus the usual cereal and toast, coffee, and juice. I’m not sure every room has been upgraded, but ours had. There’ve been a lot of improvements since I last stayed here 9 years ago, including electrical work, a better mattress and pillows, and very good wireless service. I wasn’t expecting much change, but I was wrong. I’ll be back. It’s a good place to stay in a nice little Texas mountain town.

I booked two nights because it was the cheapest motel in town and close to the McDonald Observatory. The bed was comfortable, though it was hard to keep the room at a consistent temperature for sleeping. Breakfast was limited, and there was no ice.
