Courtyard by Marriott Fort Myers Cape Coral Hotel

I travel often and have Marriott titanium status, but I’ve never had a reserved room given to someone else before. I booked more than a week ahead, then arrived to find the hotel full and my room already sold. We had to find another place ourselves. Thankfully, the La Quinta about 30 minutes away had a room and welcomed us. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The rooms were comfortable, clean, and easy, and the staff were friendly throughout our stay. We’d gladly come back and recommend this Courtyard Marriott. We also held my son’s wedding welcome reception here. It was a relaxed spot for everyone to mingle and start the weekend, and the staff arranged extra help so the evening went smoothly. Thanks to the management team for preparing in advance and being there that night. It made a real difference.

The only reason I’m giving this place a star is that the staff are nice. Otherwise, zero stars. Replace the beds and clean the air vents. We stayed a week, and my back is so misaligned that I need to see my doctor. My child has reactive asthma and was coughing and sneezing through the night, then throwing up every morning even with medicine, a HEPA filter, and a small humidifier. He doesn’t have this problem at the family home we were visiting, so it seems like there may be some unknown allergen in this room. My family was exhausted every morning. The beds are the main problem for me. They’re so soft and unsupported that I’d fall asleep, then wake up tossing and turning in pain. I tried all the usual tricks, including changing pillows and putting a rolled towel under my knee, with no luck. I’ve had better sleep at IHG hotels and even a RED ROOF INN. This is why we switched to HILTON, where the beds are WAY BETTER and I don’t get this back pain. I don’t think the bed problem is exclusive to this property, though. Other Marriott’s I’ve stayed at had the same miserable soft topper and lack of support. It’s a “nice” hotel, but a room is supposed to provide a night’s rest, and this one didn’t. Who cares about the pool, the doors that open onto the courtyard, or the nice lobby and staff when the beds leave you in pain and your child is sick every morning? I’m a Hilton Gold member, and we chose this Marriott because of holiday prices. I wish we hadn’t.

For a work trip, it did the job. The hotel isn’t the best, but it’s not bad, and everyone I met was really nice. The whole place was clean, including the “Starbucks” downstairs. They serve Starbucks coffee, though there aren’t many options. I’d stay again because the price is right, the location is perfect for me, and the people were lovely. Definitely recommend it. Bring your own pillows, though, like with most hotels.
