Bay Port Lodging

We paid $360 for two nights and got $101 back. Management authorized $128, but only part of that was apparently returned, so it still isn't the right amount. They promised a one-night refund after we reported the problems, and Booking.com seems to be withholding the rest. The owner or manager says there's no way to fix it. We have receipts and photos, and Derek took pictures too, but we never got the promised refund. The hassle and distress took over our getaway, and we'll never return. The room was filthy and nothing like the listing: drab, with wrinkled, stained bedding and no duvet cover, just a stained inner lining. There was no lamp until we asked Derek, who was on call. He photographed the mess for his manager and said housekeeping seemed to have skipped other rooms too. The shower only ran at full, scalding heat; turning it cooler made it fizzle out. Derek fixed it for the second night and cleaned the room himself, but we had nowhere else to go. Repairing the shower after we'd already needed it that morning didn't help that day. When we went back to change rooms, Derek was still cleaning the problem room. He said we should stay in it because the same housekeepers had supposedly cleaned the other one, so we did. Management called that other room newly renovated, but we never saw it. The exterior wasn't maintained, and the seating was too dirty to use. Housekeeping went barefoot between the parking lot and rooms, which seemed to explain the grime on the floors. It felt like we were sleeping on what had been dragged in on their socks. The manager kept pointing to things being reframed or remodeled, as though those were our problem to understand. Price the place accordingly. Instead, the web photos are misleading and the price is premium for dirty, unsafe, unpleasant conditions.

The location is central, the rooms were clean, and there was lots of parking. I was traveling alone, and Derek, the property manager, made the stay great by being so kind, considerate, and helpful. Bravo to Bay Port Lodging for hiring such a good person to run the place.

I enjoyed my one night here during a motorcycle trip along Michigan’s west coast. It's a clean, pleasant place, and Main Street is an easy walk away.

Derek, who runs the place, is a really nice guy and we had some good chats. Our room was clean and had a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and small TV. The clutter in the photos is all my stuff. We're just here for one night, so I can't really speak to the location.
