American Inn

We stayed one day, though we’d booked a week, and left because we couldn’t stand all the bugs. We got only a partial refund. There were stink bugs everywhere, tiny roaches by the fridge and bed, and worst of all, bed bugs. My partner broke out in hives all over his body. It was one of the worst experiences we’ve had, and we won’t stay here again or recommend it.

My friends found this hotel because it looked affordable and the rooms seemed okay. At checkout the next morning, the same front desk man knocked on their door at 9 a.m. like the police and asked how many nights they’d paid for. They don’t speak English, so they called me. When I went over and asked what was happening, he yelled, threatened to call the police, and did call them. The owner came and told him to leave my friends alone, but the man came back the following morning and asked them to buy him beers. The night before, getting their reservation confirmed took a call to the owner, and the room was worse than the Ramada down the street. It smelled awful, and the fridge was hidden on a dresser. When the man opened it, it was full of dead roaches. They weren’t refunded either. He was a much older man, drunk at the desk, and we could barely understand him. It was a terrible deal.

The woman who checked us in around the middle of the night was pleasant enough, but the room was filthy. There was a dead fly on the table, empty water bottles, and lines of what I assume was borax to keep bugs away. The fridge was broken and full of mildew, and the smell was horrid. We were exhausted from driving all day and about to fall asleep, so we stayed. We slept on top of the bed in our onesie pajamas, then changed as soon as we woke up and left immediately. Unless you’re desperate for a long-term place to stay, I’d go anywhere else.

The room was falling apart, and stains covered the carpet, chairs, walls, and ceilings. Mold covered the bathtub, the shower swung from very hot to very cold, and the sink was clogged with buildup from who knows how many guests. I brought a sleeping bag, and luckily had enough sense not to get into the bed. After reading other reviews mentioning bed bugs, I think that was the right call. This place is nasty. I’ll never stay here again, and hope people read this before wasting their time and money. I wouldn’t let my dog stay here.
