Hampton Inn & Suites Fresno

The staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, and breakfast has decent choices, with the food well stocked and attended to. Sound carries through the doors, walls, and ceilings, though. We heard the people upstairs walking, others sneezing, and people talking in the halls. The mini fridge was pretty noisy too. Still, it wasn't a wild place, so I could sleep.

The beds were excellent, and the place was clean. Breakfast was the letdown: the potatoes were cold inside and slimy, and the eggs were barely warm. Maybe the heat setting needs attention. People remember the last thing they experience at a place, and nobody wants food served lukewarm or cold when it should be hot.

Carianne was especially unpleasant. She laughed at me on the phone and called me snippy. Later they tried to apologize and said she was just clearing her throat, but I can recognize and remember a disrespectful tone without having a recording. The unprofessional front desk, dirty and uncomfortable bedding, poor room hygiene, and smell made this my worst business trip. I'm used to Hampton and Hilton hotels for their hospitality and professionalism, but the managers let those standards go. They have no number to call, and although there are two managers, both work the 9am shift. If you need to ask something outside their hours, you're out of luck. Staff tried calling them and got no response. It's the laziest management I've heard of at a Hilton. I've never stayed at one where there wasn't a manager on duty at least half the time. For most of the day, the front desk can't help because they need a manager. The managers should either train staff to handle things or quit and find a 9-to-5. Beware if you expect to interact with staff, as most of us on business trips do.

We keep coming back, usually arriving around midnight, and the staff always welcome us with smiles and a fun, engaging attitude. Check-out is just as pleasant. The hotel has been newly renovated, so the rooms and beds are great. As a Swede, the interior and colors give me a bit of a Scandinavian feeling. Breakfast is good and served in a calm, nice lounge. It's a great place to stay.
