Super 8 Motel - Gadsden

Check-in was quick, with no small talk or needless words. The room had a pretty picture, a refrigerator, microwave, and very comfortable bed. The sheets seemed clean, and the bathroom mirror had an adjustable light around it. But I expected a better standard from Wyndham hotels, and the website photos were misleading. The room floor was dirty, clearly not swept or mopped. The bathroom floor hadn't been mopped, and the shower floor hadn't been cleaned either. I complained at the front desk and was told they'd tell housekeeping. A young woman came with cleaner and something like a Swiffer mop, sprayed a little and swiped over the floor a couple of times as if that was enough. I said the shower needed to be rinsed with water. She didn't like that suggestion, but ran some water and stormed out. The shower floor tiles were badly done, some sticking up and others so uneven they looked wavy. I'm surprised nobody's cut their foot. The whole property was dirty and run down. And there wasn't even a Bible in the room.

The pillows were a pleasant surprise, newer and not flat or smelly, and the location was very convenient. The place wasn't helpful or friendly, though, and I wouldn't stay again. The included breakfast was misleading: a slice of day-old bread in a sandwich bag, warm coffee, bananas that weren't fresh, a tiny muffin or cupcake, and juice cups that looked like leftovers from someone's school lunch. The toaster seemed like it came from a thrift store yard sale, or maybe it was just their old one. Also, no late checkout.

My wife and I had a great stay. The area was nice and close to restaurants and stores, and our room was clean and very nice. The staff were friendly, kind, and polite. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The bathroom wasn't clean on our second stay, which was toward the end of November last year. There was hair on the bathtub, and thankfully we'd brought our flip-flops. On our first visit in Oct 2025, the room didn't have large bath towels. Instead of explaining that they don't provide them, staff said they'd put some in the room, but never did. We'd already decided not to wait and bought our own sets.
