Fairfield Inn & Suites Galesburg

The staff were great, and breakfast was perfect, but the room’s condition and cleanliness caught us completely off guard. We only needed a quick seven-hour stop during a road trip, so we didn’t raise it or look for another place. The maintenance wasn’t what we expected, especially for that price range.

I’m still frustrated by how this was handled. Last year, staff entered our room without warning twice, once while I was in my underwear. I reported it and received 5,000 Marriott Rewards points. At first I thought that was fair, but someone at corporate later said 10,000 points were worth only $12.50, so I couldn’t understand how the compensation for two incidents added up to $62.50. I then called the location and spoke with Erin, who added 15,000 points and said that would cover a free night there. A few days later, another front desk employee told me to call Marriott Rewards to book with points. They said I’d need more than 25,000 points for one night, even though the Galesburg Fairfield Inn website listed the room at $162.50 including tax. By my math, 18,000 points came to more than $200, but corporate said they couldn’t do anything and that I needed over 25,000. Paula transferred me to Elise, and after 21 minutes the call disconnected. When I called back, I was transferred to Marco, who said he was a supervisor but still couldn’t help. It feels like they don’t know what they’re doing, and corporate is trying to overcharge me. I may as well cut up my Marriott Rewards credit card and stay somewhere else. It’s been a terrible experience. I appreciate the response to my review, but it basically said too bad and gave me no guidance.

We’re paying $110 a night here after another hotel chain tried to charge us $205. The breakfast is included and was great: scrambled eggs, sausage links, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, cold cereal, bagels, bread, boiled eggs, and yogurt. Great value for the money, highly recommend!

Bad weather got hairy while we were driving home, so we pulled off and found a hotel. The Fairfield Inn took us in warmly and let us into a room well before check-in time. I’m really grateful for their understanding and hospitality. The room was nice and clean, and the beds were super comfortable.
