We were headed farther south and stopped here because it was easy to find and close to McAdenville, where we went to see the lights. The morning desk woman was much friendlier and more helpful than the lukewarm greeting we got on arrival. Breakfast was good. The rooms are dated, even if they've had some updates, and the building has seen better days. I thought Gold members got two complimentary waters, but nobody mentioned them at check-in.

We got our deposit back, and everything was fine in the end, but the desk clerk's manner was unpleasant. We checked in on 11/14, and the male clerk with long black hair was rude and gave us very little information about our stay. We didn't understand why a deposit was needed after staying many times, which we thought should have established our credibility. Less than five minutes after check-in, we asked for two each of towels and washcloths, plus one bathmat. He acted bothered about fetching them and said we'd have to turn items in for an exchange if we needed more. We're honor members, and this felt like unnecessary distrustful treatment. He also should have explained that a deposit was being charged. Don't take your feelings about your job out on customers. Be respectful.

We were glad we chose this place for a last-minute Thanksgiving night stay. The room was cozy and comfortable, and breakfast was solid. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they worked hard to keep breakfast moving for so many people.

The lobby is nice, the staff were great, and breakfast was done well with the usual Hampton choices. The bathroom was fine, the TV selection was okay, and Wi-Fi worked without any trouble. Since it's close to I-85, try for an odd-numbered room that doesn't face the highway. My room was a little musty, and the frayed couch could use replacing.
