Best Western Plus Goldsboro

The pool was a lovely shade of green, with algae giving it a third-world feel. The carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned since shortly after it was installed. Breakfast might suit someone who hadn't eaten in a month and was starving. I stayed five days and had to ask for clean towels after day three, since apparently nobody cleans the room. I only gave one star because negative stars aren't an option. I'll add pictures so you can see I'm not making this up.

The staff and service were great. I didn't mind waiting to check in or having to move rooms when the TV didn't work. What really bothered me was the payment confusion. I booked and paid through Expedia, but at check-in they said they needed another $100 held for damages until checkout. When I left the next day, I got a receipt showing $63.84 returned to my card. I still don't know what I was charged until I see my bank statement, or whether the website or hotel is responsible. What if I'd arrived from out of state without $100 available? Put up a sign saying it costs $100 to check in, and we'd be fine.

The room was in awful condition and smelled like cat pee. The sheets were ripped and stained, the furniture was peeling, and the carpet was coming apart, with what looked like a wild amount of staples in it. I should've driven farther to Smithfield.

The whole property has gone downhill, and it no longer feels welcoming or safe, especially for vulnerable guests. A large group was loud and disruptive, and the hallways and shared spaces smelled strongly of marijuana and alcohol. I worried about my relatives and my car in the parking lot. I had asked for two adjoining rooms on the first floor for myself and two relatives in their 80s. The rate was prepaid by credit card with no refund available until checkout, and there was also a $100 incident fee for each room, which felt excessive. A few hours after we checked in, I had to switch rooms because the toilet and TV weren't working. Shanese at the front desk helped arrange the room change, and the other clerk I spoke to was polite and accommodating. Still, I wouldn't recommend staying here in its current state.
