Cajun Country Inn

I can’t recommend this place, even though the building looks nice with its clean stone front and fancy paint, and there have clearly been some recent renovations. The shower was great, there’s a small stove and desk area, and the bathroom looked clean. The woman on the phone was pleasant when I called ahead about availability and the $102 price for two beds, and she was pleasant when I arrived, paid, and got the key. But the room had serious problems. The AC was already struggling, and each filter had about a quarter inch of grime. The bedding was visibly dirty, smelly, and wrinkled like it had been slept in. The stove still had grease and food bits around it, especially around the knobs, and there were roaches. Sound carries through the walls and doors too. At 4am I could hear my neighbor snoring and blasting the TV, along with some kind of whistling contest in the parking lot. The lack of cleanliness is why there are still roaches, as reviews mentioned seven or more months ago.

I felt differently after the owner made me stand outside in my underwear at 1am and told me to leave with my kids, even though I’d paid for a full week and got no refund. We were treated horribly. Before that, my experience had seemed amazing: after a terrible stay at another nearby hotel, this place felt like heaven. The room was clean, up to date, and comfortable, and the staff were kind, respectful, and helpful. The woman checking me in was warm and caring, and I loved the room when I walked in. I would have called it my first choice in Gonzales and recommended it to anyone looking for a quiet, clean, comfortable place.

The office staff were good people, but room service was terrible. The cleaning lady never came in, not even to ask if we needed towels, toilet paper, or help. We stayed three weeks showering with hot water because the cold water didn’t work. I told the office, but they did nothing. The owner came into the room, turned the water on, and left, and nobody even asked if we wanted to move. Wi-Fi is poor in some rooms, there aren’t enough TV channels, and the rooms don’t have enough space for a family. I don’t recommend staying here.

A few of the rooms are good, but some could use a little more.
