Quality Inn Grand Junction

The room had a strong cologne smell, and when I called the front desk three times to ask about the pool closing time, nobody picked up. After the third call, someone came to my door to check on me, which was appreciated and accounts for the two service stars. The bathroom floor was wet. With the phone unanswered, I had to go downstairs. I suggested the room might have just been cleaned, but they said it sounded like a seal problem and toilet water. There were no other rooms and no credit available, so they gave me towels to cover the floor. The TV guide didn’t match the channels, either. A local friend was emphatic that I shouldn’t leave anything in my truck bed because of known crime in the area. At check-in, I’d been told the desk was open all night and to call if I needed anything. For $133, this was a very poor stay. I was hoping breakfast might redeem it, and said I’d update the review in the morning. I hate leaving bad reviews, but anyone considering this place should think about their vehicle.

Breakfast was the standout: home-cooked eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, crisp hash browns, and homemade salsa. It was much better than a standard continental spread, and the staff were kind. The rooms were fairly clean, though the beds were on the firm side and the price felt a little high. My one complaint was the dishes. I went through a stack of maybe five to ten plates, and every one was dirty. The dish machine might have had a problem, but the plates needed checking before guests used them. The food itself was excellent.

The manager was very apologetic and found us another room when I reported the condition of the first one. We checked the replacement before moving in, and it was much cleaner, though white dog hair covered the chair and desk chair. We cleaned a little and just avoided sitting in them. The rest of that room was okay. The first room had an odor, a floor that needed vacuuming, water dripping in the fridge, and a greasy microwave with old pizza mess. The remote and table between the beds were sticky. I started wiping things down, but finding lots of little black hairs on a pillow after pulling back the sheets was the last straw. The check-in area looked nice enough, and the room price was good. Breakfast was okay, with a large dining area and pretty good food. The hotel is just off I-70. Housekeeping needs to do a better job. If you stay, ask to inspect the room first.

The one-bedroom suite was immaculate, and it’s easily the best Quality Inn I’ve stayed at. The employees clearly care, and the building is well looked after. Breakfast was great, the vending machines were real, Wi-Fi was solid, and there were no sticky floors or cratered mattresses. A couple small things: the HVAC made it hard to keep a steady temperature, and the bathroom had an air filter but no exhaust fan.
