Clarion Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Airport

We won't be staying here again. In both rooms, the floors hadn't been swept. The first room hadn't been serviced, had partly used toiletries, and a broken shower door. In the second, the heating unit's door had fallen off and there were no toiletries. The hallways were unswept too, with overflowing trash everywhere. It was disgusting. The front desk tried to help, but said nothing could be done until the manager arrived Monday. When we spoke with him, he said he couldn't help and told us to contact our booking agent. Never again.

The desk clerk ROBERT was helpful and apologetic, and got my concerns sorted out. My problem was with housekeeping and the lack of care for cleanliness, comfort, safety, and sanitation, not the front desk. Clarion should train the housekeeping staff better and hold them accountable. The place smelled strongly of marijuana. My first room had a TV that wasn't working right, dirty carpets, and what looked like a huge hairball, about the size of a small animal, outside the door. I had to change rooms, and the TV remote there didn't work either. After a few tries I finally got one that did. Then I found no towels or washcloths, and the shampoo and conditioner had been left behind partly used by someone before me. I know it's hard to find good help these days, but this was worse than bad help.

The location is great and the staff were very nice, but the building was dirty and run down. We checked in at 7am, and the hallways smelled so strongly of cigarettes that my nose burned, even though every room had a no smoking sign. The first suite had broken furniture and neither TV got a signal. Staff were excellent and moved us quickly. In the next room, the furniture was broken too, the TVs had so much static we couldn't make out the picture, the carpet was dirty, and there was no hot water. Maintenance couldn't come until the next day, and then couldn't fix anything, so we were told to move rooms again. We packed up and changed hotels instead. Druray is less than two minutes away. Book there from the start, you won't be disappointed.

I get great value here for both the property and its location. The rooms are very clean, and the staff are always willing to go out of their way to help guests. I work in the area and stay here about three nights a month, so I'll definitely keep coming back.
