Best Western Plus Grand Castle Inn & Suites

The Grand Castle itself is clean, pretty, well located, and felt safe. Room T-1111 was comfortable, clean, and spacious enough for three people overnight. There are no TVs in the rooms; that would have been a nice extra, though it didn't make or break it. The stay was overwhelmed by spammy, half automated messages. They took over communication so much that it felt like there was little need to use the Airbnb app. The messages helped us get into the apartment and explained the stay, including a $25 per hour late fee, which I understand. They also said to request late checkout when booking, but not everyone knows they'll need it until they wake up a few minutes behind schedule. Checkout was at 10am. By 10:15am, we were getting a string of texts telling us to leave. Eleven minutes later came another saying we had five minutes, and at 10:49am we were told security would be contacted if we didn't leave immediately. Being charged for late checkout is understandable, but getting three texts and a security threat within the first hour felt crazy. Three different numbers were sending automated texts, and there were also messages from the host through Airbnb. Once the host learned I planned to review the experience so future guests would know, they offered not to charge the late fee because we'd left the room clean. My feedback is to include a direct late checkout option or link in the automated messages, especially where they ask guests to mention checkout. People may assume, as we did, that the stated fee will simply be added to the bill like at hotels and other Airbnbs. Having the cleaner arrive a little after checkout would also give guests time to pack and leave comfortably. With three phone numbers, the host page, and the Airbnb app involved, it was hard to coordinate. I hope this helps future guests. The Grand Castle is great, but people renting out apartments there should communicate more professionally and remember we're all human.

The apartment views make the tricky access to 28th street feel worth it. The Grand Castle has found a nice balance between its castle theme and feeling like home. The property is well maintained, the apartments are good value, and the staff are helpful and know their stuff.

I loved my year in a micro studio at the castle. I moved from maryland, and Ivy was flexible and helped me get settled. The neighbors were friendly, and I liked studying in the library and relaxing in the saltwater pool. If you play pokemon go, there are tons of stops and plenty of friendly castle players to meet along the routes. They keep making improvements, and I generally had no issues and felt safe. When I eventually needed to leave because of volatile roommates, Lisa was as accommodating as ever and made me feel safe talking with her. Living here was the best decision of my life. If you want a fresh start, a sense of community, or to feel like royalty, I highly recommend applying.

The apartments and amenities are very nice, with a spacious interior courtyard, a parking ramp, and great views from the roof. The staff seem friendly and helpful, and the building feels more secure than most apartment complexes. There's even a small dog park.
