Redwood Garden Inn

Shiann, the GM, is such a pleasant person, and the whole staff reflects that. The entrance and dining area water features make the atmosphere relaxing, and the pool area is wonderful. I met some great travelers there. Breakfast was well set up and well attended to. I’ve stayed at a couple of other hotels in Grant's Pass, but this one beats them for accommodation quality, service, and amenities. Even in the town center, I felt at ease about my vehicle and belongings and could relax. We highly recommend it and will be back. This is the place for us.

Under new management, the motel had a nice room and a welcoming look outside. Breakfast was the usual hot and cold spread, and I appreciated the biscuits. The pool area is beautiful, though it opens at 11:00 am, the same time checkout starts. There are plenty of great restaurants a short drive away. Southern Oregon has so much heart, you’ve gotta love it!

The replacement room was only a few doors away and barely any better. It smelled bad, was very dated, and had neither a deadbolt nor a second lock, which left us feeling unsafe. Two homeless shelters are a few blocks away, with fenced tent areas nearby. We’d made a last-minute overnight stop while visiting friends in Grants Pass. They suggested Redwood Garden because the grounds looked lovely, though they hadn’t stayed there. The grounds did look nice, but our first room was the opposite: terrible smell, heavily stained carpet, and it didn’t feel clean. I asked Daniel at the desk to move us. He initially refused, saying our Expedia booking meant we had to stay in that room. I said it was unacceptable and asked for a manager. Earlier, a woman at the desk had been asking to switch rooms because hers smelled bad. Daniel didn’t acknowledge me while dealing with her, not even to say he’d be with me, and took about 15 minutes to handle her request. When he finally checked us in, the problem continued. He reluctantly called his manager, then insisted on walking to the room with me to “verify” the stains, as though I’d made them up. He even claimed the black marks were cleaning product. Back in the office, while arranging the switch, he said the hotel was “taking a loss” because I booked through Expedia and suggested it was my fault. It was rude and unprofessional. The lot was nearly empty on a Saturday night, and I told him they were making money by having me there at all. The staff were dismissive, the rooms dirty and poorly maintained, and the stay didn’t match the attractive grounds. I wouldn’t recommend it. The property badly needs a full remodel and much better customer service.

We’re back for our second stay at Redwood Garden Inn, and we love it. It’s quaint, with rooms just the right size for two. The pool and hot tub are excellent and open beyond the regular hours. Breakfast was great too!
