MainStay Suites Grantville - Hershey North

Our family loves the arcade, pool, and basketball court, which kept the kids busy. The beds are so comfortable that we slept great. During the East Coast snowstorm, Anthony, Brandy, and Caitlin made sure our stay went well, while housekeeping kept everything sparkling clean and stocked. Kenny and Eddie from maintenance were quick to fix things, too. Luka has a welcoming team and runs a great place. This is our home away from home in Pennsylvania, and we’ll be back.

The staff were phenomenal, and the location and rates were both good. My kids enjoyed the pool and game room, though the pool is small and the game room mostly has claw machines. The fridge wasn’t working when we arrived, but after we told the front desk, they brought up a replacement within 15-20 minutes. The room itself had some real problems: the bedspread was stained, so we left it unused, and the tub had mildew and a nasty looking jet return, so we didn’t use that either. The foldaway couch mattress was stained and uncomfortable, though my two boys managed okay. The rug outside the bathroom was ruined.

The room smelled like marijuana when I arrived, and later the smell was across the third floor. Management first said they weren’t claiming it was me and couldn’t verify anything until after checkout. I’m a 24-year-old woman traveling alone in an unfamiliar city, and with the hotel already smelling like weed, I kept a Do Not Disturb sign on my door for my whole stay. I didn’t feel safe with people entering or knocking while I rested. Later, the hotel emailed that they’d give me the benefit of the doubt and had learned something from the situation. Yet they still tried to charge my card $200 for smoking. The charge failed only because there weren’t enough funds. They had accused me, put me on a “Do Not Rent” list, admitted they weren’t sure, and still tried to take the money. You can’t say you’re uncertain and offer a guest the benefit of the doubt, then fine them anyway. That’s negligent, not professional. Proceed with extreme caution if you stay here.

I love this hotel, but I heard some employees talking about coworkers in public, and that sort of thing should be kept private. Later that evening, when my colleague and I needed help with something in our room, Kaitlyn went above and beyond. She was attentive, polite, and kind, and I feel sorry for her. Management should give staff a refresher on behaving like adults and treating people kindly. Kaitlyn, keep your head up. What happens in the dark comes to light. God Bless.
