Grand Hyatt DFW - Connected to the airport

Restaurant prices were a little steep, but the pickup, check-in, and room made the stay worth the price for convenience during an overnight DFW layover. Our flights were disrupted by events in the Middle East, and we needed one more hotel night on our rescheduled trip home. Rojelio deserves a shoutout for getting us from the pickup point to the hotel in about five minutes by avoiding the traffic. Nick was also wonderful. We had lots of luggage after an extended trip to East Africa, and I’m somewhat mobility challenged, so he noticed we needed extra help and took us to our gate in the VIP vehicle. He was professional and gave excellent customer service. His efforts deserve recognition.

The airport shuttle was quick, and the drivers were very friendly. Staff were friendly too, though they seemed overwhelmed by the crowds. The Precore equipment in the exercise room was the best I’ve tried, the bed was good as with most Hyatts, and connecting my computer by HDMI was easy. There were a lot of problems during my stay. The deadbolt was broken and couldn’t be fixed, and on the first day the door battery died, locking me out until maintenance came up. The mini fridge was a good size but froze my drinks even on its lowest setting. More than half of the outside wall had no window, so the view wasn’t what I expected. The connecting room door was paper-thin, making indoor noise louder than outside. Furnishings were dated and needed remodeling. A dance contest brought more than 1,000 little girls into the hotel, and with elevators out, getting upstairs took 15 minutes or more. Shower pressure was almost California-low. This has been the worst hotel so far in my reviews of Hyatt airport stays. My next one is LAX Regency, which may end up at the bottom instead.

The free airport shuttle worked well, which mattered since the hotel isn’t somewhere you can walk to. My room was as expected, and I’d stay again if I needed to. The receptionist was cheerful and friendly and answered all my questions, even with a supervisor standing right behind her the whole time without smiling. He was creepy. I didn’t use the pool since it was outdoors and it was winter.

The restaurant and bar had plenty of room, and I liked the range of food on the menu. I got a soup and sandwich and enjoyed it. The rooms were comfortable and looked well cared for, and check-in and checkout were quick even with a large company meeting going on. Getting there was tricky because of the airport construction, and some people had a harder time finding the way in at night. I assume that’s temporary.
