East Rock Inn

The snow-covered woods behind the property looked lovely in the morning, and the place was a convenient, comfortable base for our two-day trip to Butternut and GB. The loose-stone driveway is marked by a large entrance sign, and check-in and checkout were incredibly simple. Our room was immaculate, the new bathroom worked well, and the king bed was so stable and comfortable that one of us could roll over without disturbing the other. I only wish I knew the mattress brand. A few things could be better. The lighting has a harsh blue cast, and the shower liner looked like it might be starting to mildew. The heater behaved differently day and night: it shut off its fan once the room warmed up during the day, but ran noisily all night. We put our gear in front of it to muffle the sound. The main room floor also slopes and dips below the bathroom, and we could hear and feel vibrations when kids jumped in the next room. I wish the renovation had included those subfloors. There isn't much surface space, so expect to put clothes on the floor. With the sofa bed open, getting around the room is awkward. That was fine for us, though larger groups might find it difficult. Parking by the inside-corner rooms can be tight, and backing out at checkout was a challenge for us. I'd recommend it for a couple or maybe a family of three on a short visit. It's a great fit for the right guest, especially with the ski slope so close.
