For $700, I expected a lot more. Our two-night stay in the ocean-view “Midship Loft” room (#214) had a great setting at the end of the Spit, but the view from our small balcony was mostly the lower floor’s tar-paper roof, with standing water on it. The two chairs were covered in bird poop, and the room windows were so filthy that paying extra for the ocean view felt pointless. The room itself was basic and dated, though clean, and housekeeping cost extra. The sauna and one of the two hot tubs were closed; the other tub worked, but its jets didn’t. I also found it hard to locate information about the restaurant and other amenities. With updates, this place could be amazing, but as it is, I don’t think it’s worth the price.

Homer feels like an artist’s painting come to life, and this place is part of that. The setting and views are spectacular, so book a seaside-view room if you can. Reserve the outdoor hot tub ahead of time, too, since evening and sunrise slots fill quickly. I’d call before your stay to arrange it. When my shower had no hot water, the attentive staff handled it well and let me move to another room.

The scenery around Land’s End Resort is what I keep thinking about, from Kachemak Bay to the mountains and coastline. It’s a beautiful place to pause and take in Alaska’s landscape. My room was comfortable, clean, and relaxing, and I felt welcomed as soon as I arrived. The peaceful atmosphere made the stay special, and I’d gladly return when I’m in Homer.

The breakfast buffet was less than what you’d get at a Holiday Inn Express, yet they charge $22 per person. Our downstairs room also had a huge staircase directly in front of the patio door, blocking the view and leaving no privacy on the back “deck.” It was just a cheap metal table and two chairs on dirt, with the upstairs staircase ending right there. The rooms felt like an older roadside motel that’s only semi-kept up. Very underwhelming, and at least twice what it should cost.

We didn’t want to leave and would absolutely stay again. In mid-October, the town had mostly shut down, so we got a room without booking ahead. We spent hours watching sea otters and eagles, sometimes from the balcony seating and sometimes inside by the bay window. Our reserved hot tub was behind glass walls, and we soaked for an hour while enjoying the views. The place is right on the point of the Homer Spit, with incredible scenery. Construction was underway, but it didn’t inconvenience us. A quiet, romantic getaway would suit this place well. 10/10.
