Breakfast is a big part of how I choose where to stay when work brings me to Greenville, SC, usually for 2-3 nights. This Springhill in downtown Greenville has fresh strawberries, blueberries, melon and pineapple every time I’ve been there, plus applewood chicken sausage and blueberry scones that are so good. They also make scrambled eggs with real cage free eggs. I’ve stayed at several Springhill Suites, including others in SC, and none of those did that. I get that powdered eggs take less work, but serving real eggs and fresh food could make people choose this hotel over others nearby. I even took a picture to send my family because I wished they could enjoy that breakfast with me. It’s included with the stay. The hotel itself is newer, with friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms that are well designed. I’ve stayed at a handful of Springhill Suites, and this particular downtown one is also a Residence Inn, so I think this applies to that too. It’s my go-to when I’m working around downtown.

The location worked well for me, with plenty of coffee and food within walking distance. I’d gladly stay again when I’m visiting Greenville. I didn’t eat at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the food, though it all looked nice. The outdoor space was a highlight, especially the comfortable couches and gas fire pits. The gym was well above average for a hotel. The property was very new or recently renovated, spacious, clean, and had a calm, almost zen feel. It’s one of the nicest Marriott properties I’ve stayed at, out of about 100.

Our daughter loved the swinging chairs in the calm lobby, and the buffet breakfast was fantastic. The staff were superb and let us check in early so she could nap, then check out late so she could nap again before a nordst party. I do have Platinum status, and rooms were available. We stayed thanks to a local charity auction, and being downtown and centrally located was fun. Even so, it was quiet because the building was well insulated. The room was spacious and clean. We left saying we should make this an annual staycation.

We were close enough to walk to the main strip, but the hotel wasn’t too loud at night even though nightlife was about two blocks away. I’d stay again and bring my kid next time. Staff were helpful, and the bar was a nice extra. We got drink tokens each night with our stay, which surprised me, though I’m sure I paid for them somehow. The location was great. Parking is on the street or in the public garage across the road. The garage, attached to an apartment/condo building, felt safe enough and cost a flat $10 per day. Valet at Springhill Suites was excellent, at $20 per night.

The rooms are lovely, the location is good and the food was decent. The front desk service, though, was rude. My employer booked and paid for the room, but they refused to check me in because they hadn’t received a credit card authorization form. I sat there for close to 45 minutes with a newborn before I finally put my own card on file. My employer said they’d never received such a form. After my stay, I went back to ask whether they’d moved the charges to my employer’s card. They hadn’t. I contacted my employer again, and he sent proof of payment on the company card. I showed it all to the front desk, and they literally said they didn’t care. They wouldn’t listen or try to sort it out, just acted brusque and annoyed. I told them their customer service needed work, and they barely looked at me before saying, “mmhmm.” Save yourself the hassle.
