Courtyard by Marriott Greenville Haywood Mall

Pretty average place. The AC blows straight at the bed and you can’t redirect it. I went down at 6am hoping for free coffee, but there wasn’t any, and a medium cost $5.40. That was enough for me. I won’t be back, I hate being nickeled and dimed.

I’d stayed here once before and had a good experience, so I booked again. I’m a Marriott Titanium member and usually travel three weeks a month. In three years of this kind of travel, I’ve never canceled a reservation, especially at the last minute. This time Greenville got seven inches of snow, making it physically impossible and unsafe to travel, so I had to cancel within the cancellation window. The hotel still refused to refund the last-minute fee. I understand holding to a policy when a traveler is irresponsible, but treating a loyal guest this way when safety was the reason feels irresponsible and unacceptable to members. It tells me a lot about the hotel’s leadership, and I’ll choose somewhere else for future trips to the Greenville area if I can.

Our group waited three hours in the lobby before we could check in, and no one gave us a reason. We had booking confirmations from several departments, loads of emails and receipts, a payment receipt, and a signed, confirmed third-party form. We’d spent literally an hour on calls with the front desk, management, and the events department and had verbal confirmation too, but when the group arrived, the front desk wouldn’t acknowledge the reservation. On the phone, several people kept interrupting me, including Suzy. I had to politely ask, “Can I please get my message across? I keep getting interrupted.” Maybe that’s why they messed up the booking. They just don’t listen.

The pool was closed, and nobody told me at check-in, though it would have been nice to know. Our room also wasn’t fully cleaned, and someone eventually had to come finish it. The whole hotel had no clean hand towels, which is totally unacceptable. As a Marriott Rewards member, I found the stay a real disappointment and not at all what I expect from Marriott. This is one Courtyard I won’t stay at again.
