The Bissing House

After staying in countless Bed & Breakfasts and historic houses across the country, I know how many can make a visit feel vibrant, welcoming, and connected to the people and history of a place. This one left me wishing I'd never paid to stay there. It's dark, dirty, and uninviting, and I'm not sure how the Health Department hasn't shut it down. People live upstairs, and we could hear them walking around very late at night. Doors were left open to hallways, laundry areas, and the kitchen. There were huge piles of towels, sheets, and miscellaneous clutter on the floors, plus dirty dishes stacked all over the kitchen. I can't imagine the sheets or towels are changed between guests. I feel bad for anyone who has slept here or eaten food made in that kitchen.

The soap dispenser was empty and there wasn't any Kleenex. We skipped breakfast for obvious reasons. Take a look at the kitchen photo.

The house was elegant and full of history, and our room was lovely, clean, and comfortable. We were glad to pass up the highway chains and stay in this beautiful home instead. The self-guided registration and check-in were easy to follow. I would have given it five stars if the breakfast had been more like what I'd expect from a B & B.

The next morning's breakfast was delicious and perfectly done. Check-in and check-out were easy, and restaurants, shops, and other businesses are within walking distance. It's a beautiful old Victorian home in a quiet neighborhood.
