Comfort Inn & Suites Heath - Newark South

The location worked out well, with eateries, convenience stores, and a pharmacy nearby, and downtown Newark under a ten minute drive. We got good value for the price and would stay again. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the front desk staff were very nice. The elevator and pool were in good shape, WiFi was strong, and the complimentary breakfast area was kept clean. On the downside, there was no power outlet by the desk, and half the fitness center equipment was broken.

The heater wouldn’t work at first, and I found out it wasn’t even plugged in. The towels were thin and rough, the TV remote was broken, and the room was dusty and not cleaned properly. We were put on a floor that was clearly still being worked on. Wet, freshly painted hall walls, missing baseboards in the room, and other unfinished bits made it feel like the space had been put back into use too soon. It would’ve been fine to know about the construction in advance. A heads-up and more care with the basics would have helped a lot.

During my day off, the fire department evacuated me because of a fire, and I couldn’t get back into the room I’d paid for for half the day. The pool was out of order for my first few days, and the fitness center was out of order for the rest of my stay. I also had to change rooms because of the remodeling. The new room had just been painted, and the fumes made me sick. I raised that with the manager, but was brushed off instead of being offered another room. When I first checked in, there was pet hair all over the furniture, and it got on my clothes. I can’t recommend this hotel.

Guests were running through the halls, banging on doors, and yelling until 1 am on my third night. There was no staff around to sort it out. Earlier, when I complained to the manager about the noise from housekeeping, it got worse the next day. The first cleaning staff member, an older gentleman, was nice, but for the following three mornings there were slamming doors, loud banging, and carts hitting walls while furniture was being shoved around from 9 am until after 1. The king bed was badly worn and so hard and uncomfortable it left my body hurting. I wouldn’t stay again. Pay a little more and go somewhere better.
