SW Beach Hotel

The venue itself was lovely for our wedding reception, and the location is excellent. We rented several rooms, including the penthouse and rooftop, and really enjoyed celebrating there. Dulce and Carlos were fantastic and helpful. The manager, Chris, seriously undermined the experience with behavior we found unprofessional and deeply disappointing. During the initial tour, Chris said the owner of Stella Rosa and San Antonio Winery also owned SW Beach Hotel, though the hotel website lists Sandy. The day before our rooftop booking, he said he wanted to turn the penthouse into a restaurant but couldn’t while the current owner, who was about 80, was alive. He went on to say ownership would pass to the owner’s son after his death, and then changes could be made. Hearing a manager talk so casually about waiting for someone to die to advance business plans was disturbing and inappropriate. Around 10:45 p.m., Chris aggressively yelled at six of us, who had reservations across three rooms, for talking in the hallway. He also shouted at our last guests as they left, telling them to get out, then slammed hallway doors. The rooftop and indoor music had been off for quite some time. Only registered guests and two family members from the reception were still there. Nobody had told us registered guests couldn’t talk in hallways between 10 and 11 p.m. Quiet hours could have been handled calmly and respectfully. Multiple guests also saw Chris drinking on-site while on duty. I emailed Sandy using the address on the hotel website. The reply didn’t address the claim about Chris drinking on duty and described the shouting simply as quiet-hours enforcement. On the penthouse comment, it said: “With respect to the penthouse, the only statement made was that it would be impossible to convert it into a restaurant as long as the current owner is alive. That is the full extent of what was discussed.” That felt dismissive of what we experienced. There were also maintenance problems: several outlets in the penthouse didn’t work, and its microwave was broken for all four days, even after we told management. Room 105 had inconsistent hot water, and the Keurig in 106 barely worked. We loved the venue and appreciated the helpful staff, but the manager’s behavior and comments had a major effect on our experience.
