I arrived with my Priceline room already paid for, and I was fine with the $100 deposit and $20 pet fee. But the night clerk ran my card for the deposit and said it declined. My account showed a $115 hold with a transaction ID, so I showed him. He said they hadn’t received it and ran the card again. That left two separate $115 charges, totaling $230, on top of the $76 I’d paid through Priceline. I called my card company and eventually got a representative on the phone. The clerk spoke with them too, but said he couldn’t do anything until morning, when he could email the manager. My card company said the charges had been approved and the hotel had received them twice. Since the clerk still said he hadn’t received the deposit, I couldn’t afford to pay it again, so we didn’t stay. I was in tears and felt they had no compassion at all. If the charges aren’t canceled in the morning, it means the money will be taken from my card too. This was the worst hotel customer service I’ve ever had, and the experience was horrible.

After a long drive, the walking and biking trail nearby was a welcome bonus. The room was a lovely surprise, much prettier than the average place I expected, and it was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location worked perfectly, and the staff made us feel welcome. The front desk woman was especially wonderful, though I wish I’d asked her name. We had a great stay, and I highly recommend this place.

The room was spacious and had everything I needed, and the hot tub was a nice surprise. It was a smoking room, though, which made it rough. For what it cost, I was happy with what we got. I’d recommend it and will come back.

My pet-friendly room clearly hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly between guests. There were nose marks from pets on the windows and dirt in every corner. I found a plastic cup cover and a bar of soap under the bathroom sink, and the shower curtain had a hole in it. The hotel itself needs better upkeep. They burn incense in the lobby at night, which makes me wonder if they’re trying to cover up odors.

The owner was extremely rude. I stayed almost a month for surgery, and he suddenly refused to take my husband’s credit card by phone and changed the room rate for the last four days. My family came for a funeral and said their rooms were infested with roaches. The inn is pretty, but he kept saying, “give me $100 and I bring your room key.” Knowing I can’t walk without help, he seemed unfamiliar with proper innkeeping. It’s too bad, because Hickory is known for its friendly people.
